Just a quick reminder that a free  training  to prevent sexual abuse of our children is occurring at St Peter Hospital at 5:30PM in the 200 rooms. If you work with children, have children of your own or ever was a child-you should attend this class. Please pass this on to your friends and colleagues and sign up by going to  WWW.PROVREGISTER.ORG to register. Education units provided for various professionals. I also included 2017 class list.  Hope to see you there. Thanks, Laurie

Dear Caring Adult,

Statistics suggest that 1 in 10 children will be sexually abused by the age of 18. Ninety percent of children who are sexually abused are violated by someone they and their parents know and trust. This includes youth leaders of all types: teachers, coaches, ministers, mentors, counselors, and parents.

Providence St Peters Hospital’s The Sexual Assault Clinic in collaboration with Monarch Children’s Justice and Advocacy Center is pleased to announce an important new prevention program in the greater Thurston County area: Darkness to Light's Stewards of Children sexual abuse prevention program. This program takes a direct and comprehensive approach to the problem of sexual abuse. A compelling video, the core of the curriculum, includes the stories of several courageous individuals who were victims of sexual abuse as children and who have contributed a great deal of time and effort as adults toward ending the cycle of abuse. The video also has input from various professionals such as law enforcement, social workers, faith leaders and others.

This program is ideal for any adult working with children,  have children of their own or wherever a child themselves. Monarch has authorized facilitators, who have been fully trained to implement this program. The facilitators will lead a 2 hour training session, including a discussion of the information presented in the video. Each participant also receives the booklet, Darkness to Light's 5 Steps to Protecting our Children.

Our authorized facilitator is also able to guide organizations through the development of sexual abuse prevention policies and procedures. Both the training and the policies and procedures are important steps toward creating environments that are safe for children.

Sexual abuse has enormous costs: Children are hurt, the reputations of organizations are destroyed, and insurance settlements are astronomical. Your organization can't afford to ignore it: Protect their only Childhood.

The Providence St Peter Hospital’s Sexual Assault and Child Maltreatment Clinic has received a grant that allows us to offer this education to community groups free of charge.  We will cover all materials cost and provide facilitators, usually a clinician and/or medical social worker or counselor who specializes in the field of childhood abuse. Contact hours are available for social workers, certified counselors and registered nurses.

Contact Providence St. Peter Hospital Sexual Assault Clinic at 360-493-7469 or visit the D2L.org website for more information. We require at least 20 participants if we are teaching at your site but also offer classes at St Peter with the next one being November 17 at 5:30PM.  To sign up for this class, just go to provregister.org and look for the Darkness to Light tab.  If you have problems signing up online, call the clinic at the above number. Hope to see you Thursday or hear from you soon. A flyer of this presentation has been attached to this email. If you would like to not receive this email, just let us know and we will take you off our list.

Please pass this on to any caring adult.

Thank you.
